Girish Kumar Navani – Surviving Long Road Trips

How do you manage your long road trips? For many people this is something which they do not enjoy and unless the road trip is part of the vacation, a long drive can be difficult. My colleague Girish Kumar Navani and I often trek for long trips in our work and over the years we have worked out something of a system which we use to make sure that we survive the long voyage. If you have any long road trips coming up then here are some pointers for you on how to make sure that everything goes smoothly.

Vehicle Check

Something which you must do ahead of your journey is to ensure that your vehicle is fit for the drive, something which Girish Kumar Navani will always do for us ahead of a trip. The last thing that anyone wants is to have a longer journey because of a maintenance issue and whilst you can never completely avoid a problem, you can certainly do your part to make sure that the vehicle is in fit condition for the journey.

Breaking Up

Something which Girish Kumar Navani and I are always keen to do is to break up the journey with stops along the route at certain intervals. Usually we will drive for no more than 2 hours before having a quick break. Not only is this helpful for going to the bathroom or grabbing some refreshments, it also ensures that we don’t tire from the drive. Girish Kumar Navani doesn’t drive so I will always be doing the driving, Girish however is an excellent companion. Driving when tired is dangerous so make sure that you take those stops.

Entertainment

I have to admit that Girish Kumar Navani is a very good companion in the car and we also like the same sort of music which is a great help. Make sure that you have some entertainment with you in the car in order to help wile away the hours that you will be spending on the road. If you are with others in the car then you can play games such as quizzes and word games, if you are alone then you will need to have something to entertain you. Music or listening to a podcast or the radio can be a real Godsend when it comes to keeping you from being bored on the road.

Food Prep

There is nothing worse than being hungry and not being able to find somewhere to eat so make sure that you prepare some food ahead of the trip. Girish Kumar Navani and I will often pack up a little cooler with some sandwiches and fruit before the trip and it just makes your life that little bit easier. This can also help you to save money as most rest stops charge more for food and drinks than normal.

Try out these tips for your next road trip and make life easier for yourself.
