How Does Room Color Influence Our Mood?

It has long been proven that colors not only express someone’s mood but also heavily influence it. If you are often surrounded by walls that are of one color, you will notice that specific hues evoke a particular emotion.

If you are planning to repaint rooms of your home this weekend, or if you are thinking of having your own house soon, here is a guide to how colors affect human mood.

  • Red. Red is a color of energy and passion. Using red curtains, carpet, or painting your wall red will evoke a feeling of being alert or alive. This color is most appropriate for living rooms or other rooms with concentrated activity. Some may recommend using red to color your dining room to facilitate conversations during family meals or parties.
  • Orange. While orange is correlated with enthusiasm and energy, it is also associated with healing energy. Orange may be used in living rooms as well, but you can also use this color to help pump you up in your fitness corner or the place in your home where you store your gym equipment.
  • Yellow. Being the color of sunshine, yellow evokes happiness, brightness, and positive energy. Accent your living room with a yellow centerpiece or yellow wallpaper to make the place not only look bright and spacious but also welcoming for a heartwarming conversation with a loved one.
  • Green. Green gives a calming and relaxing vibe that makes it perfect for bedrooms, your study, or your garden. Because of its calming effect, green also evokes unity and togetherness. Splash some green in corners of your house to feel harmonious.
  • Blue. Like its neighbor in the color wheel, blue has a calming and refreshing effect, which is why many bathrooms use blue tiles or blue curtains. Lighter tones of blue may be used to even the tone of rooms that are screaming too much energy, like your living room or kitchen.
  • Purple. Purple is both luxurious and trendy. When used with blue and lighter variants of the color like lavender and lilac, it makes rooms feel cooler. Because it can go two ways, purple can be used as an accent in bedrooms (for a relaxing feeling) and active rooms like games rooms, children’s bedrooms, and living rooms.
  • White. White is the color that goes well with any color. This color is so flexible that it can either accentuate or dampen a prominent color in a room. When used alone, white gives off a luxurious and harmonious feeling. For this reason, using a white colored dining set or white couches in the living room can make any place feel welcoming and peaceful.

Mixing it like a palette

Think of your home as a canvas where you have the liberty to mix and match any color you want. You may use one to leave a stronger impression, while you can combine two or more to make your home more cozy, luxurious, and warm, just the way you want it.
