If you have an old refrigerator at home and adore cool beer, here is an interesting DIY for you. Today, you will learn how to make a kegerator with your own hands and always have a cool draft beer at home. All you need is a couple of tools, an old fridge, and a kegerator kit that comes with everything you need for this makeover.
You don’t have to be a jack-of-all-trades to master the following instructions, but it’s better to start by reworking the refrigerator that you don’t mind ruining and throwing away if something goes wrong. And take care of your fingers. There will be many sharp corners and dangerous moments.
A set of components will help you with this project:
- handle for fouquet
- beer tap
- washers and hex nuts
- beer and air line
- keg connector
- CO2 regulator
- aluminum beer tank (optional)
And, of course, you will need one or more kegs of your favorite draft beer. The scheme that you will see now can be used to chill homemade draft wine. In the case of wine, you don’t need a CO2 bottle, which makes all the difference.
Determine the area of the door or side of the refrigerator that you can drill. Search the Internet for a detailed diagram of your refrigerator to find out where the electrical coils are located. You cannot drill a hole in these places.
Consider the location of the freezer when choosing the location for the hole. It is important that the handle does not interfere with the free opening of the chamber.
Make a hole. Don’t rush to drill the doors. Sometimes, this is where the wires go. Drilling the side of the fridge is often more practical and safer.
Connect the kegerator kit. Insert the shank into the prepared hole. Fix it with the hex head screw. When everything is ready, attach the tap.
The next step is connecting to the beer line and connecting the CO2 bottle. After attaching the regulator, tighten it with a hex wrench and make sure that the regulator is in the off position. Only then can the keg be rolled out, the pressure adjusted, and the CO2 allowed to flow into the keg.
That’s all! Serve cold beer to your friends and enjoy it yourself.
