Is Marie Kondo’s Cleaning Method the Right Way?

Since Netflix released the show called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, the star has become a divisive figure. Some people appreciate the way she cleans up the place while others think she is wasting resources.

Kondo’s primary philosophy is to let go of things that do not bring you joy. You need to touch every item in your house when you clean. If you think an object does not make you happy, it might be time for you to let go of it.

It is entirely reasonable to follow Kondo’s cleaning philosophy. Many people have messy homes because they keep things that are unnecessary. Sometimes, we think that we need some stuff at home, but it has been years since we last touched it.

It is also reasonable to organize the items properly with labels and to maximize whatever storage area you have at home. With this cleaning method, it does not matter if you have a big or small place. You can find a way to fit everything in.

Conversely, it is also understandable why some people find her techniques funny. It is quite unclear why Kondo treats objects as if they were gods. She starts every cleaning session with a form of prayer or ritual. She is also gentle when throwing things out. The seemingly insane aspect of the method makes people doubt the strategy. They are also uncomfortable with the idea of throwing everything away because it does not bring joy, even if it is still useful.

You decide what is best

It is up to you to determine if you will follow Kondo’s philosophy or not. She advises what people need to do to organize their lives. She does not force you to throw everything away. The goal is to keep the things that you need and let go of the ones that are unnecessary. It is similar to how you need to treat people. Keep the ones who make you happy and stay away from the ones who bring negative vibes.

What to do after throwing things away

The problem most people following this philosophy face is determining what to do after identifying the items to throw away. The first step is to organize them. You need to know which of them could still be recycled. The others that are biodegradable and not used anymore can go straight to the trash.

If you realize that you already have piles of trash, you can use a junk pick up service. These experts will come and help you. They will collect all the items for disposal. They have a method to determine what to do with the things you throw away, so they will not go to waste. Therefore, if you feel guilty that you are throwing resources away, you need this service.

The bottom line is for you to start cleaning up now. You cannot wait until everything starts to pile up before you do something about your problem.
