The world of a private investigator is not something that many of us know much about, sure we may have seen people do such positions on the television but as we know, TV usually represents things very different from reality. And so to find out more about this industry we spoke to the brilliant Jennifer Mellon a woman who, alongside her partner Danny Boice, works for the pirate investigation giant Trustify. This company provides PI services in a novel way from how things have always been and they do so with transparency, great pricing and through providing the very best in the business, people like Danny Boice and Jennifer Mellon. During our chat Jennifer spoke about the roles and responsibilities of this line of work, why she enjoyed it and most importantly, what excited her the most about this role, let’s review.
Surveillance
Surveillance is a key part of the role of a private investigator and it can often involve many hours of staking someone out. Jennifer tells us that this is one aspect of the job which she enjoys more than most and speaks about a certain morbid curiosity which surveillance can bring out. In this respect a PI is very much hiding in the shadows and it is understandable why it would be so exciting, who wouldn’t want to do that!
Truth
Although the consequences of finding it can often be tough to go through, Jennifer tells us that one of the most exciting aspects of the job is discovering the truth about something or someone. She gives the example of a suspicious spouse who hires a PI to watch their other half and see if they are being faithful, a very common job for a private investigator. Jennifer says that she understands the importance of the information which she finds here and whilst it is good news if the person is being faithful, she knows it still won’t cure the suspicion. Conversely if she discovers that the spouse is being unfaithful, her information may well split up a marriage. In spite of the consequences however Jennifer Mellon knows that her job is to find the truth and that is why she loves it when she does discover it.
Variety
One of the reasons why Jennifer took this position was because of the variety that such a career promised and this is still what excites her and gets up leaping out of bed each morning. On any given day she could be interviewing people, carrying out surveillance, spending time in court or gathering information from many sources along with a large range of tasks and responsibilities. Variety is something that many of us would like to have in our careers and it is yet another reason why Jennifer loves the position that she is in.
