Whether you want to sell a sofa, rent a home, advertise your garage sale, or find volunteers, craigslist classifieds is a good place to start. According to Craigslist, their ads receive 20 billion visits a month. With so much activity, you want to make sure that your own posts are seen. By following a few suggestions, you can make your Craigslist ad stand out above the rest.
Includes a High Level of Detail
Detail matters a lot on craigslist classifieds, whether you’re creating a classified ad, event description, or other post. Be as specific as you can about the item you are going to sell. For starters, it includes information regarding the condition, history, and dimensions of the item. The same goes for event posting – be sure to include full details like date, time, location, and what people can expect. For example, if you are organizing a garage sale, list the types of items that will be available for sale.
Good Quality Photos and a Good Header
It’s hard to get a reasonable idea of what an item is worth without looking at photos, especially when it comes to classified ads. When taking photos, make sure they are well focused and clearly show the details of your article. If you’re going to post a high-priced object, like a house or a car, include a good set of angles from near and far. The headline for your post is also very important. Try to be direct about the topic of your ad and focus your headline on the details, not on publicity stunts. Try to use a direct approach, and not a marketing one. You can mention that the item is new or has little use, and provide the price, brand or size.
Put a Suitable Price
Before publishing an item for sale, do some research on pricing. Check other similar craigslist classifieds listings for pricing, and make sure your offer is comparable. When it comes to choosing a price, a March 2011 Wise Bread article suggests that you take the lowest offer you would accept and raise its price by 20 to 25 percent. Most buyers on Craigslist are likely to bid below this number, allowing you to trade to a midpoint.
Re-Post your ad for Greater Visibility
According to craigslist classifieds, its members post 50 million classified ads per month. When you post a notice on the site, it appears at the top of the page. As time passes, however, it is displaced further and further down. Craigslist does not allow you to post the same notice more than once, but there is a way to bring it back to the top of the page if you notice that it has been lost to others. Create a new publication, copying all the information from the first one; then delete the original so that only your new notice remains, back to the top of the page.
